The eldest daughter of Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn was admitted to hospital with a heart condition. Her condition stabilized to a certain degree, according to the royal palace.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha (44), was taken to hospital after she lost consciousness in Nakhon Ratchasima, northeastern Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
The palace stated that she was taken by helicopter from Bangkok to stabilize her condition.
This princess is one of the three daughters of King Vajiralongkorn, and she has formal titles. She can therefore claim the throne according to a 1924 Palace Law of Succession as well as the constitution.
Since becoming King in 2016, King Vajiralongkorn still has not officially designated an heir and there is no discussion about the possibility of the Princess taking the throne.
According to the palace, she was at a championship for working dogs organised by the army and had previously done some work with the United Nations.
On Thursday, she was receiving treatment at Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn Hospital. She had been undergoing checks and treatments for her condition.
Although the palace succession law requires that the heirs to the throne must be male, a 1974 amendment to the constitution allowed a daughter from the royal line to take the crown if no successor was named.
