Marcus Rashford, England’s striker, continued to score goals as Manchester United cruised past Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Tuesday.
Rashford scored three goals for England in the World Cup in Qatar. United set themselves on the way to victory in 19 minutes with a goal from a corner. Anthony Martial then doubled United’s lead just three minutes later.
Forest believed they were back in the match by half-time, but Willy Boly scored from a free kick and it was disallowed.
United put the final nail in the coffin with a convincing display by substitute Fred scoring a third. This victory moves United one point behind the fourth-placed hosts. Forest stays 19th.
Amazon’s Erik ten Hag, United boss, stated that “We need to score more goals. We created many opportunities and it took us till just before the final to score the third goal.
Just before the half-time break, we had two great chances to win this game. You have many more games ahead of you, so it is easier to save energy. It’s also better for everybody. We need to be more patient for the team’s progress.
You can clearly see that Martial and Rashford scored goals. Bruno Fernandes will also score goals. But we must be relentless.”
Rashford’s season has been much better in front of goal, both for country and club. In his first league match back from the World Cup, Rashford’s fine finish at the near post, from a corner well-worked, broke the Old Trafford drought.
Rashford finished the game with a fine goal, taking his season total to 10, in all competitions. This is twice what Rashford managed last year. Martial was another player who seems to have found his scoring touch. He converted Rashford’s pass and added another swift fire goal.
Rashford stated to Amazon that every forward has a goal they wish to reach.
For me, it is to be able to score more points than I have in any season. I believe it’s 22, 23, or 24. “I need to keep scoring and affecting games.”
Although Boly’s goal was ruled out by VAR, United maintained control.
Brazilian forward Antony missed a golden opportunity to score early in the second period, but his attempt from close range was saved. Fred, his compatriot in Brazil made no mistakes with his last chance inside the penalty box.
United has now won the league only once since October’s defeat at Manchester City.
